KCC seeks a wind engineering professional to join our growing team of catastrophe model developers. In this position, you will work closely with scientists and other engineers to build out our global suite of advanced tropical and extratropical cyclone models.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate building codes, building inventories, and construction practices by country and by region within countries
  • Conduct literature surveys of property and infrastructure damage from past windstorms
  • Collect and analyze insurance claims and loss data
  • Perform validation tests on model loss estimates
  • Conduct post-event damage surveys for wind disasters around the world
  • Update the vulnerability functions for models
  • Document for the internal reference materials and external model assessments

Qualifications

  • MS in Structural or Wind Engineering required, PhD a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel internationally with little advance notice
  • Experience in catastrophe modeling a plus
  • Knowledge of C# programming language a plus
